Vysehrad- my favourite place in Prague!

Envision Vysehrad. Think of uncrowded castles, well-preserved from centuries past. The Sun shining brightly in a cold winters day, bringing much needed warmth to your cheeks. Visualize drop-dead stunning views of Prague with the waters of the Vltava flowing through the beautiful city.  I sound so love struck with Vysehrad but I am not even exaggerating. This place EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS which was more than a pleasant surprise.

After ticking off some of the things in our list, we took the metro from Náměstí Republiky, to Vysehrad station.
Prague subways stations are so photogenic as well, may I add.

Outside the Prague Congress Centre.
The castle was a 10 minute walk away across a charming and unassuming neighbourhood. This being a sunny day made all the difference for me, in terms of my mood and energy. (Which might possibly contribute to my infatuation with Vysehrad castle but it really was super nice, I promise!)

Markers directing visitors to the castle were pasted along the way, which made it super convenient.

The trail went past a quiet neighbourhood, giving 'authentic vibes'.

And then, we reached the outer grounds of the castle!

We have reached the Leopold Gate!
Entering through the Leopold Gate, I was already amazed! The view from the playground and view points was really gorgeous! I was seeing a new part of the city in good weather (the Sun really made so much difference) and without he throngs of tourists! Incredible!

I do deeply and sincerely apologise if you are disappointed by this (or any of my photos in this post).
The photos might not do Vysehrad castle justice but it was really amazing! You have to experience all that joy and enchantment yourself! O

A skyline I have not seen before, a very interesting V-shaped hotel in the background.

Ah, now it's getting better!

The mighty Vltava. I may or may not work well with natural sunlight. And this is taken against the Sun, so it really is unflattering (but still amazing right?)

AH HERE WE GO.. BLISS :)

We spent some time admiring the unobstructed beauty, watching boats sail by and trains rumble from below.

And that my friends, is the Saint Peter and Paul Basilica. I know, it's just the side view and it is already impressive.
I think it's a good thing to approach from the side.. slowly uncovering its grandness and awesomeness and elegance, rather than being attacked straight on by all that perfected artistry... OUCH!

Wait a bit more.. it'll be worth it. Let's blink our eyes a few hundred times and prepare ourselves mentally and physically to be blown away. Has everyone recited a short prayer and taken their 1000th deep breath? Yes? Ok, here we go...

WOW
My overdramatic self aside, one cannot help but agree that it is indeed a stunning piece of architecture. We didn't make our way inside and merely admired the Basilica from the outside.

More view points.
After taking in all that grandeur (and enjoying the Sun, I can't emphasize how I also loved the weather that day), we took our mesmerised selves down to the tram station and made our way back to the more crowded and touristy part of the city. WORTH. IT.

So overall, we only spent on transport. We didn't spend on anything on the castle grounds, alright maybe the toilet but admissions wise, we didn't go for any of those and still enjoyed ourselves fully. If I come back to Prague and can only afford to visit one place, this would have to be it.. no hesitation whatsoever.

And hey, awesome scenery in the tram going back. A lovely day!
